The Advice We Give Almost Every Customer Looking for a Sofa in Brisbane
Share
One of the things I enjoy most about running Furniture Importer is talking to people.
Every week we meet families, students, couples moving into a new home, Airbnb investors, and people simply wanting to replace an old sofa they've had for years.
Although everyone's situation is different, I noticed something interesting.
Most people don't come to our warehouse knowing exactly what they want.
In fact, many arrive feeling confused.
"I don't even know what size I need."
This is probably one of the most common conversations we have.
Many customers arrive with nothing more than a photo of their living room.
Some are moving into a new house and don't have the keys yet.
Others forgot to measure their space completely.
Instead of trying to sell them the biggest sofa we have, we usually start by talking about how they'll actually use the space.
Sometimes a smaller sofa creates a much more comfortable living room than the oversized one they originally had in mind.
Watching people choose a sofa is fascinating
One thing I've noticed over time is that almost everyone follows the same process.
First, they stand back and look at the sofa.
They notice the shape.
The colour.
The fabric.
The overall design.
Only then do they sit down.
If they're shopping as a couple or with family, they usually stay seated for several minutes, talking about how it feels, imagining it in their home and discussing whether it's the right choice.
That's why I always recommend visiting a furniture warehouse if you have the opportunity.
A photo can show you how a sofa looks.
It can't tell you how comfortable it feels.
The sofa that surprises people the most
If I had to choose one model that consistently surprises customers, it would be our Sienna Premium 3 Seater Sofa.
People often walk past it because, at first glance, it looks like a simple modern sofa.
Then they sit down.
Almost every time, the reaction is the same.
"The comfort is completely different from what I expected."
The soft seating, supportive high back and the way the cushions gently hug your body make it one of those sofas that needs to be experienced rather than simply looked at.
Is a sofa bed worth it?
Another question we hear all the time is:
"Should I buy a sofa bed or a regular sofa?"
My answer is usually the same.
If you live in an apartment, don't have a spare bedroom, regularly host family or friends, or you're furnishing an Airbnb, a sofa bed is a fantastic investment.
It gives you flexibility without needing extra space.
However, if you rarely have overnight guests and your sofa is where you'll spend several hours every evening watching TV or relaxing, I'd usually recommend choosing a regular sofa instead.
Most sofa beds need a firmer seat because they also function as a bed.
If you don't need that extra functionality, there's no reason to compromise your everyday comfort.
Buying online isn't always a bad idea
People are often surprised when I say this.
If you're moving quickly, don't have time to visit, or you've found a great promotion that you don't want to miss, buying online can absolutely make sense.
But if your schedule allows, visiting the warehouse gives you complete confidence.
You can compare fabrics, test different comfort levels, see colours under natural light and make sure the sofa really feels the way you expect.
One family I'll never forget
One family came to our warehouse looking for the most affordable sofa possible.
We showed them the Aspen 4 Seater, which was on sale and offered excellent value.
They were happy with it.
Then, before loading it into their vehicle, they noticed the Everest Sofa.
The difference in price was significant.
Instead of leaving immediately, the whole family sat down together.
They talked, compared both sofas, tried the sofa bed mechanism and looked at the storage compartment.
After spending time on both models, they decided to upgrade.
Not because we convinced them to spend more.
Because they realised the Everest better suited the way their family would use the living room every day.
The advice I give almost every customer
People sometimes expect me to recommend the most expensive sofa in the warehouse.
I don't.
If you simply need something comfortable to fill your living room and you're working with a tight budget, there's nothing wrong with choosing a more affordable option. Sometimes buying online is the fastest and most practical decision.
But if your sofa is where you'll relax after work, watch movies with your family, spend weekends together or create everyday memories, then it's worth investing a little more in comfort and features you'll actually enjoy every day.
A sofa isn't just another piece of furniture.
For most homes, it's where life happens.
If you're still deciding which sofa is right for you, we'd love to welcome you to our warehouse in Woolloongabba.
Come and sit down, compare different models, ask questions and take your time.
We believe the right sofa isn't necessarily the most expensive one.
It's the one that feels right for your home, your lifestyle and your family.
